A Certain Magical Index Synopsis The novel takes place in a universe where magic survives through religion and supernatural powers exist through science. In the narrative, Touma Kamijou is a regular high school student with an Imagine Breaker power and appalling academic standing. Though Imagine Breaker is capable of vanquishing any other power, it also threatens Kamijou's good fortune. Because of the unfathomable strength of his Imagine Breaker, poor Kamijou is rated at a supernatural level of 0. By coincidence, he spots a white girl dangling from the balcony of his window. The girl claims to be being pursued by sorcerers. Kamijou discovers that the girl is a Church of England nun, and that the 103,000 Church-forbadden books Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum has forcedfully rewritten the girl's memories.
